DFA posters roll off the presses!

34 posts in this topic

As we mentioned in our last major update, the backer reward poster prototypes had been completed and were ready to head to the printer.

So here's video of those posters hot off the presses!

I always love seeing professional-grade printing machinery at work. The solidity and tangibility of the process and the equipment is a nice counterpart to our increasingly digital world.

Along with the t-shirts, these posters will be going out to backers at the appropriate tiers over the next several weeks!

I really thought it would be a game poster, but this is very cool as well.

See this thread. :-)

Among other things, it has a link to a page with two files you can use to create your own Grim Fandango posters.

Lots of copy shops out there that can print to A1 or A2.

I was sort of hoping the poster was going to be textless, just a nice A1 reproduction of the Nathan Bagel painting as is. Making it truly truly sutiable for framing.

My complaint isn't real though, that poster still rocks. Just saying.

Although ya know of Text Less Versions exist, I'm happy to be delayed in my tier to receive one!

or maybe a PDF or PNG/PS file ready for 18 by 11 printing?

Still loving seeing the process... that much firing, I can't even imagine what that poster really looks like or how huge it is or how that many tubes are stacked to ship those posters.

Wow it really WAS hot, I bet. Man, I wish I could have donated more. Hopefully I'll be able to buy one or distract your ladies in the DF Shoppe long enough to hold one, lol. For some reason that printing press reminded me of the toy making machine in Babes in Toyland, anyone remember that thing?

Answer: "Yes, sort of."

Real Answer: "Sadly, nope."

You might print a few posters on inkjet plotters like Roland makes, but you wouldn't use them for a run of thousands. Also, they're rather smaller. ;)

Haha. So many machines and I have no idea what they do. Are they all necessary?

1st machine - prints image onto paper

2nd machine - adds that fresh poster smell

3rd machine - shreds the paper

4th machine - reassembles the shredded paper

5th machine - acts as display cabinet for glorious poster

Neat.

Actually, each printing unit only adds one colour (yellow, magenta, cyan, black), so you'll need 4 of those to start with to get full colour prints...
