Hey backers!

In an attempt to keep you updated about the general status of the game, we’re going to be putting together regular production updates that summarize recent progress made by all the various disciplines. These won’t be as in-depth as the discipline-specific write-ups we post occasionally, but hopefully they’ll give you a sense of how progress is made as an overall team on a game like this.

- Made layouts and temp animations for many of Spaceboy’s Act 1 cutscenes

- Updated Flipbook animation system to support multiple/custom model orientations

ART

- Painted alpha versions of 2 space scenes

- Painted layouts and color roughs of 1 space scene

- Painted props for many space inventory items

- Painted girl’s grandfather

- Implemented new VFX for a bunch of Spaceboy Act 1 cutscenes

- Created global interaction volume shader

AUDIO

- Reviewed early Spaceboy music cues from Peter McConnell

- Added footstep audio

- Began fleshing out Spaceboy Act 1 with audio effects

DESIGN/WRITING

- Had many meetings to clarify high-level design of entire game

- Wrote cutscenes and dialogue for most of Spaceboy Act 1

PROGRAMMING

- Supported listening animations for dialogue trees

- Continued work on first pass of gameplay scripting for remainder of Spaceboy Act 1

- Developed a new database for tracking backer data

Greg, Chris

How many Acts are on each story (girl, boy)? If, of course, you are allowed to reveal it.

thanks

I don't suppose this has anything to do with getting ready for the beta?

No, it's a standard thing we do for our games to facilitate testing. We've still got a fair amount of time until the beta, sadly--beta doesn't occur until a game is basically content-complete.

Nope. This is actually a really cool system though. We have the same thing in our Brutal Legend engine, we just needed to create something similar for the new engine. It essentially allows you to boot up the game and let it play itself on your machine. Bert writes automated scripts that control the player so they run around in all the levels, try to interact with everything, and complete all the puzzles, among other things. Some examples of the bugs found while running tests are an effects crash, an infinite loop in pathfinding, and a memory leak during scene loading and unloading.

That does sound cool. I love hearing about this kind of stuff. Would love to hear more. Maybe from Bert as part of a Programmer's Update? :cheese:

Really nice update, thanks!

spacebug - I don't think they said Q2 was the ETA for the game, but I could be wrong. I believe a release date/window hasn't been set yet.

We don't have an ETA yet do we, other than Quarter 2?

That seems kind of early.

Oh, I just looked it up on Wikipedia. So, no ETA at all?

Have a nice weekend

Best regards from the snowy north!

What data/rules/goals is the automated testing system fed with so that it needs to be setup for different scenes?

I bet that I'm not the only Moai SDK developer on these forums that would love to get a look at your automated scene test scripting! Hint. hint.
