  1. I am having severe issues with unplayable texture issues with Psychonauts Linux from Humble Bundle (latest download). I have to force S3TC textures on my Intel HD Graphics 3000 (384MB) and the game and music/sound all work, but the textures are a technicolour yawn. I would rather check here before doing ANOTHER 5.5GB+ download. Also, if I install the Steam Linux version, can I play it without Steam running (ie, independently of Steam)?? I have played both Unreal and Unreal Tournament with mid-range S3TC texture packs installed, and they play fine. Any thought would be gladly accepted. I would love to play this on my laptop. Every OpenGL game I have tried works fine (mostly older titles or Humble Bundle builds). Cheers. PS. Please don't tell me to contact HB support, as I already tried that with Torchlight linux, and it was 8 weeks before I received a CONFIRMATION that they had received my request email!! This is a query in regards to the STEAM version of Psychonauts, and its compatibility with Intel HD Graphics 3000. PPS. Intel have this on their site as being fully supported on HD Graphics 3000 (for Win7 Psychonauts) ???
  2. If it is any help, it appears that I was using the open-source ATI driver. To run Psychonauts, you will need the proprietary FGLRX AMD drivers. Make sure you type aticonfig --initial to create /etc/X11/xorg.conf before restarting PC.
  3. I reinstalled 13.1 Catalyst driver from AMD, with the latest kernel, and this time it worked (dunno why it failed last time, think I forgot aticonfig --initial). Performance in the game seems to have improved!
  4. Booted from my previous kernel (3.5.0-17) instead of current version (3.5.0-21), installed latest driver (Catalyst 13.1) and Psychonauts works again. Still needs a lot of optimisation on Linux/Mac.
  5. Still broken with latest HIB5 build (psychonauts-linux-01042012-bin) Worked fine (but a bit stuttery) with GeForce 9800GT. Not with AMD Radeon HD 7750. " UnixMain: StartUp successful.. 6. I am running Xubuntu 12.10, and have identical problem on AMD Radeon HD 7750. Using stable Catalyst drivers. All Icculus websites down at the moment ??? Have to download the full new 4.5GB version... sigh. Will report on success or failure tomorrow. PS. Steam beta does not download/install.
  7. I just saw the fine total that Double Fine has been pledged to create their new point and click adventure game. What blew my mind (out through the back of my skull) was the link to the twitter conversation between Notch and Tim S. I have played through Psychonauts on three game platforms at least 5 times each, and like a perfectly made film, I cherish every line of dialogue, and every visual, and every laugh (yes, I still laugh out loud on the 15th+ play through!). With the new boy on the block, and the (Jedi) master of gaming, anything is possible. Please, please, please tell me this is not some horrible internet hoax!!! ...and please create a worthy successor to one of the finest games ever created.
  8. OK, I see now why there are so many 9/10 reviews. Meat Circus should never have been included without play-testing. The sudden ramp up in difficulty is just too much for the average platformer fan. That being said - I have played through the game twice now (and playing through a third time right now). If Brutal Legend even scratches the surface of being as glorious as Psychonauts, then I'm in!!!
  9. Flame, I would install the EXACT version of DirectX 9.0c that is recommended in the README file. I would also update your graphics drivers to the very latest available (while still being legit - no tweaked drivers...) I am about to reinstall the game again, and see how far I can get. I did give up at 86% last time, but I think I will get further this time (with a new Core2Duo machine and 8 Series NVidia card).
  10. I must say that this is the funniest, most visually stunning, most creative adventure/platformer I have ever played (only bettered by SuperMario64). The cutscene of the Psychonauts battle (and the turtle before it) were truly hilarious, and inspired. I am up to 85% through my legit, signed PC version of Psychonauts (after only a few days), and apart from sourcing some serious help off the internet to get to this point, I have come across some serious bugs, though not showstoppers, they have severely effected my enjoyment of playing the game (as well as the difficulty level of Meat Circus). A few things in no particular order: a. Trying to steal "claw" award from Gloria outside the Asylum, you can go invisible - and then REALLY GO INVISIBLE PERMANENTLY! b. In Waterloo World, some trees want to float in the air, and when 'large', some backgrounds are frozen with an incorrect state (Cork/geyser in the air still?) c. Saving the game was great after I collected a lot of brains - then I resumed the game and the brains needed to be collected again... This also happens with Psi Cards sometimes too. It is probably because of playing 'simpler' platformers, that this game seems more difficult than it should be. I may never have found 1/2 the scavenger hunt items without a walkthrough. It may be that I don't use my bacon often enough - but the interruption of Agent Cruller does destroy the flow of the game sometimes. If these 3 glitches hadn't occurred, and you got a little more guidance through the game, I wouldn't hesitate to give it 100%. As it stands, I could only give it about 80%. QA/Testers should have picked up these niggly problems before release. How many times have I cashed in my cobwebs, only to move to the next machine, and repeatedly zap it with a cobweb duster. A terrible shame all round... A better example of QA was Super Mario Galaxy (95% due to camera angle in some levels), which was being previewed ad-infinitum, and I saved all the preview footage. On (eventual) release, so much had changed for the better, it was almost a new game, and much more enjoyable. It appears you had a swag of QA/Testers, but the bugs (as of 1.0.4) still remain.
  11. I have played 60% of the game without a crash (6.5hrs+ of recorded gameplay) - having real trouble helping Gloria's mood swings at the moment - as I did before... The game did crash when I tried using a backup CD (cough - copy protection), but has run seamlessly since going back to the original disc. The game shipped with only version 1.0.0.1, which was pretty inexcusable, as 1.0.4 fixes a few real showstopper bugs, including the missing cobweb duster! I never thought I would 100% a level, but I have done so in 2 whole minds now - so looking forward to the unopened doors... still laughing out loud - still enjoying myself - a bit frustrating in parts, even the bacon doesn't help me on this level.
  12. My shipping confirmation just came through - soon I will be the proud owner of a SIGNED copy of Psychonauts PC. I will download all legit updates so I can be sure I get the full experience. If things go badly for me, get ready for a heated exchange on this forum
  13. I have a repeating crash on Sasha's levitation course on my NVidia machine. I am now getting the same random crashes on my Radeon machine. I cannot be that unlucky!! I will fork over my hard earned cash, but I would damn well better expect some quality support to get this sucker running! (I am starting to think that the random crashes are caused by the copy-protection/no-CD crack, and not the original game itself) I am in Australia, would I need the European version, or US? (or does it even matter on PC?) I also want to but the game direct from doublefine, and avoid the dodgy delivery methods of Steam and TryMedia. Thanks all - Next time you see me post, I'll be using a 100% legit copy...
  14. There is still what I regard as a substantial glitch in the latest PC game. If the game is left idle, when active, paused or at the title screen - all previous saves are reported as corrupt, and any saves you create are corrupt. This can happen easily if you leave the game running for any reason. Bit of a downer, but you can simply quit completely to solve that happening. Still enjoying it very much indeed - despite the faults.
  15. Played for a solid 2 hours without a crash (never even LOOKED like crashing). Will play again for 2 hours tonight, and if it doesn't crash, then I will certainly buy the full game. PS. I am skipping scenes and saving everywhere - it looks really stable now. Must have been a corrupt install last time. I also ran Norton Disk Doctor unattended, and that may have fixed a crosslinked file or something. Did someone before mention Psychonauts on the GameCube? PS. I am using the 2 part trymedia installer, which has a real installer for the first 50%, then a 7z decompress for the second half of the install. I am sure that the original installer (DVD/CDs) did not have this system. Installer crashed 2 times during install. PS. I will be buying a second copy for my brother, who is soon to get an AMD64 5200+ with GeForce 8300GS. I cannot think of a better game for his system. Is there trouble with AMD or 64Bit chips in general? I think AMD is 100% compatible with 32bit binaries tho...??!
