The application crashed when starting a new game

Recommended Posts

Downloaded the beta successfully, started the executable through steam and changed the game to full screen mode. After selecting the save slot the music stops, screen goes to black and application crashes. Tried again with full screen off and immediately after selecting the save file, application crashes.

Also changing the resolution in the options crashes the application.

EDIT: Forum doesn't allow dump files to be attached. "The filetype you are attempting to upload is not allowed

Allowed Filetypes: image" .

Hi! There is a known issue with Steam Overlay that crashes the game (it's a driver issue, so not much we can do on our end.) Try turning off "Enable Steam Community In-Game" in Steam -> Settings -> In-game and see if you still have that issue?

I have the exact same issue. My guess is because I don't actually have a graphics card and am just using Intel HD Graphics. Are you in the same boat?

Hey Roubjon! Have you tried the suggestion I posted? Let us know if the game still crashes with Steam Community In-Game disabled.

I've got the same issue as well, disabling the Steam in-game stuff doesn't help. This happens on an antique Macbook Pro with Radeon X1600 graphics on Snow Leopard so I'm not really sure if this is actually a supported configuration.

EDIT: I emailed you the system info and a log file

Thanks for you prompt response! Unfortunately it didn't solve the issue.

Disabled the "Steam Community In-Game" . Application crashes when starting the game

Set Steam to Offline mode. No effect. Application crashes

I just turned off "enable steam community features" and it still doesn't work for me. Main menu , credits work perfectly fine , it just quits unexpectedly everytime I try to start a new game (it still auto saves and shows that)

0430am, it looks like there are issues with Radeon cards; one of our programmers is looking into it. As for all of you, can you post your specs?

Yeah, I tried to disable the Steam Community and it still crashes whenever I try to start a new game, load the auto-save, or change the resolution.

Thanks for the thought!

Hey guys, we're working on figuring out what causes those crashes. It may be video card issues, so make sure you're using the latest drivers!

Had the same issue. Turned on Fullscreen in the options, New Game and the music kept playing but with a black screen.

I discovered that my crash was related to my firewall blocking the game from connecting to Google Analytics. After opening the firewall for the game, the crash went away.

2.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5

Same issue as everyone. Menu works fine, then blank screen and exit to desktop upon choosing new game. It's building a save with a screen grab of what i assume to be the title screen when i go to continue game.

HP laptop with an intel series 4 chipset.

It's so depressing to wait so long for the game and then it teases you in, and when you open the door, it turns you away.

Update: Windows was telling me that my drivers were up to date but I double-checked and Dell had some newer ones. Unfortunately, installing them did not impact the problem in any way; same issue. I did update the specs below.

To be precise:

1. Game launches fine. Steam overlay actually worked the first time but I disabled it just in case (no change).

2. I can fiddle around in the menu and watch the credits.

3. As soon as attempting to start a new game, continue a game, or switch the screen resolution, it crashes.

3a. Note that new game and continue game do fade out from the menu; the crash happens after that point.

4. The saved games menu does show the "choose your character" screen as the thumbnail, but notably that image is never visible when attempting to launch the game.

As noted above; my drivers are as up-to-date as I'm going to get (see below). Steam Interface is disabled.

In Steam, open the Help menu option and select "System Information". It's not very obvious but you can click and drag to select the contents, then press CTRL+C to copy to clipboard (and paste here or whatnot).
