Everybody get random!

Recommended Posts

6 minutes into my video (out of about 9 - getting there!) and I realize two things.

1) I probably don't have enough game footage and YouTube, shockingly, seems to be failing me.

2) I NEED TO SLEEEEEEEEEEP.

I think I'm going to be cutting down to the wire with these...

My college pulled a really crummy move and shortened my semester by about a month, meaning alot of deadlines have been moved up and stress levels have gone through the roof.

Your college is terrible. "Hey you know that education thing you're here for? Well we're gonna have to cut that short. Okaybye."

Why did they have to shorten it?

Why is there not an option for "No, I'll be spending time with my girlfriend because I have far more important things to worry about than a f**king video game"?

For me it would be more like: "Nope, not interested because it's a game franchise that I abhor and also my homework is more interesting than playing that game."

I agree

the last good CoD was CoD4: Modern Warfare. It's not that the games are bad, it's just more and more of the same.

The last good Call of Duty game was Duty Calls.

I liked becoming a Sergeant Of The Master Sergeants Most Important Person Of Extreme Sergeants To The Max!

I second this, are you going to get some sort of a refund since the professors are going to be spending a month less time teaching you or anything?

Nope, no refunds. There's a disclaimer on the receipts after you've paid for a semester that all payments are final and non-refundable. I'm gonna still try to raise hell with them

Dad has been pestering me about next semester when I'm having trouble dealing with this semester.

I've been really tired, unfocused, unwilling to work on anything creative (I assume everything I can come up with will be dumb, only funny to me, riddled with mistakes, all the characters will be too OP, etc.), I don't trust myself to do anything right, I quadruple check everything, and I feel stuck. I want to learn to paint digitally. I want to try to animate again. I want to try my hand at a webcomic. But all I have the energy to do is look online for a half hour and go back to sleep. I hate it, and it scares me.

Oh my gosh, this is literally me a sem or two ago. Okay first thing I would say, and I'm sorry for it, is screw your dad. You don't need that kind of pressure now or ever, so try to find a way to tune him out.

I don't know how to help with being overly self-critical because I have to work through that myself, but one thing that's helped me let go in the past is being more preoccupied with getting something completed and out the door. Just getting stuff done might help you at least figure out the things you liked or didn't like, or what you could've done better. You end up having better focus on what to do next time

Thanks, I'll try my best. I've been fighting him over this since college began, and he always responds "You're just being difficult and lazy, I'm trying to help." It's not laziness if I don't want to badger the school to sign up for next semester before they even open for registration. I've tried, they just turn you away and tell you to come back in a week. I try tuning him out, but if he texts or calls me and I ignore him, he guilt trips me about it later and makes me feel like an asshole.

Just hunkering down and doing as much of it as I can might work, as much as I dread failure. At least I can learn from it. Do you know anyone on the forums I could learn animation from, particularly Flash?

I don't know anyone that has experience in flash, sorry. There's most likely alot of great tutorials online, though

Also, just to ease your mind a bit about failure. If you're worrying about it even a little bit, then you're probably doing a good enough job. If that still doesn't seem to stop you from worrying, then ask for critique! Critique is great because it gives you a real sense of direction. Alot of the dreading failure, in my opinion, comes from not really knowing if you're fulfilling the right 'quotas' in your work and stressing out trying to cover as much ground as possible in case you're wrong

Hey medacris,

There are a few tuts over here at Idle Worm which my media teacher at school used to teach us a walk cycle. You could try them.

@ medacris:

If your dad doesn't understand not being able to sign up for classes before the sign up date, I can see two solutions to maybe get him to lay off a bit. One thing you could do is make him a schedule... or better yet, just print out the one from your school's website. Give it to him and show him that this is official school policy. I did this with my parents and it turns out that they were just really nervous because they didn't know what was going on. Once they had a set schedule, they didn't have to worry as much because it was all written down officially by the school so they'd only call me up on the dates listed on the schedule.

If that doesn't work, I'd say just tell him you took care of it and everything is fine. Since you're going to sign up for classes anyways, there isn't a whole lot of harm in saying you signed up a week early.

Thank you for the advice, everyone. I did learn to animate a little, but my teacher expected us to be a lot better at it than I was, to already know stuff I don't think we had been taught yet. And he insinuated that I'd never get it, and that's why I never picked it up again. But I want to see if I can prove him wrong now, because I'm tired of giving up. I want to see if I can at least get a little better at it. I think my dad knows scheduling isn't open yet, but he thinks you should get everywhere super early, or 10,000 people will be in front of you when it's time to do it. Which is true sometimes, I admit. But other times, no need to worry.

That "Going To The Store" song will never leave your head. Ever. Mr. Car is my favorite part.

Had to replay one of the games I'm reviewing to get more footage.

F**K stealth sections in games not specifically designed around the concept.

And DOUBLE-F**K stealth sections in games not specifically designed around the concept where you also have to escort someone who can get caught way more easily than you, forcing you to go back and try the section again.

Worst stealth section I've ever played was in the second Harry Potter game. I spent hours trying to traverse a tiny bit of brightly lit hallway unseen without any magical assistance swarming with people.

And eventually, I just went 'f*ck it' and ran through the entire section, activating every single alarm. And the crazy thing was... it worked.

Which is why I categorize this as the worst stealth section. A stealth section that is easier to beat if you are as unstealthy as possible is a terrible stealth section.
