Patanoir

Really excited to see how this game turns out. The interesting mechanics are really reminiscent of an obscure text-based adventure I once played called PATANOIR that was an entry into an interactive fiction competition. (Link below).

In the game, since it is text-based, you have to watch for anywhere that the narrative/text uses a metaphorical expression. If you see a metaphorical expression, you can utilize the figurative aspect of the expression as if it were literal in order to solve some puzzles.

For example, if someone in the game were to give you a chilling stare, then you could use their chilling stare to cool something. If a person's personality was described as electric, then you could possibly use their personality to charge a battery-operated device. If shadows are described as being black as ink, then you can reach down and scoop up some of the figurative ink and then literally put it into your fountain pen to write something.

It's totally crazy! I submit it for possible reference/inspiration material for the team.

That sounds a ton like the Infocom text adventure "Nord and Bert couldn't make head or tail of it" which I had an absolutely awesome time with.

Hi, I'm the guy who made a PataNoir. It's great to see that people still remember the game :).

I just want to say that the game has been significantly improved since 2011, so I recommend playing the current version at http://ifdb.tads.org/viewgame?id=si9s1jktywxj5vdk, instead of the old competition release. Do you think you could update the play link, AnAnemoneInAnonymity?

I'm working on an illustrated app version for iOS and Android, which should be out in the near future.

Oh sweet! I always love bumping into interesting people here on the DFAF forums. I'll gladly update the link for you, and I doff my hat to you, sir, for your fine creation.
