Keyboard layout

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I can unfortunatly not play LPBB since it uses a hardcoded us-qwerty layout, and I use dvorak. The game doesn't care about what layout the system says I use, it uses hardcoded us-qwerty keyboardmapping. Could you solve this, or can I simply not play LPBB?

Yeah, I was annoyed by the hardcoded keyboard mapping, too. I use QWERTZ though, so I didn't have it as bad as you. :)

Yeah, to make it worse, my only keyboard is a blank das keyboard :) I'll have to try it out at work on monday where I at least have qwerty mapping printed on the keys :)

If you don't already have key remapping software and are feeling adventurous, you can remap the keys by modifying the prefs.sav file under C:\Users\(YourName)\AppData\Roaming\Doublefine\LittlePinkBestBuds. You may want to back up the file before modifying it.

Ah, but the problem is the other way around (sort of). When I input text (to chat with the LPBBs) it's in qwerty. If I press say O, the game thinks I pressed S, and after what I saw in that file that doesn't seem to handle that.

Sorry, I thought you were referring to changing the player controls. Then the only other current option I can think of is to find free software that can remap your keys.

I had the same problem. Mine has a Brazillian layoud so luckily I had no problems with the letters themselves, although I couldn't find the question mark and whenever I tried to use apostrophes it would bring up the console.

Yeah same thing here, swedish keyboard layout. Luckily i know where the US keys are after 10+ years of playing Quake (which has the same issue in the console) so wasn't a huge problem. :)

hint: "?" is shift + the key to the left of the right shift button. (on my keyboard it's a "-")

Thanks, now I can finally ask questions! I also found the apostrophe a little to the left of the enter key. Unfortunately it didn't help much, I thought the buds would understand me a little better if I used the question mark but I guess they can't understand much either way...

I don't know how many years you folks are using Microsoft Windows, but you can also go to

Start > Control Panel > Clock,Language, and Region > Language > Advanced settings > Switch Input Methods etc, etc, etc ... if your problem is more than just having to type z for y or the other way around.

I am playing around with different input methods, like XInput (gamepad) via emulator, and still need to test GlovePIE.

I first thought, voice recognition - instead of typing - would be an ideal method for a younger audience ... until I saw some potatoes.

Now, I am not so eager on that.

I do want to go through the chat-script ... scripts and find out what dictionary is used and how I can extend it (even share?) a wider range of recongizable words and prases, but this would demand 'work' on my part, which I don't have right now.

Generally, the ERROR ERROR message, when the best buds are running out of 'memory' is funny once or twice, but I would have chosen "whatever" and "really?" as the 'default' back answers. That's just personal taste, I guess.

Yes you can, but that's not the problem here. The problem here is that LPBB disregards that, and uses US-QWERTY anyway, so the only way to fix that would be to spoof the hardware scan codes, if that's possible.
