Bloodline Editor functionality feedback thread!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! Here's a link to the actual editor!

www.massivechalice.com/bloodlineeditor/

Please keep in mind that it's a WORK IN PROGRESS! We're going to do our best to address your concerns, but we probably won't be able to get to every single feature request. We've got a game to make too! :D!

Brad!

I was just reading the latest update and after looking at the preview for the editor I have to say you need to include black as a skin color (and mind you I mean the actual color black), and white for a hair color.

I came up with an interesting use for the octopus legs as a pattern element. I'm finding there's a lot of cool designs you can get if you scale things up and offset them.

Nice, I like the potential for that scale manipulation to create patterns. That is something I always liked to do with CK2 sigil creator, which was pretty basic and not that great, but I could manage to create things that felt unique enough from other things I was seeing in-game. The MC sigil creator looks immensely more fun to play with, and I look forward to it. I have no idea what I'd want my bloodline to be -- so it'll be an experiment!

I've been playing around with it this morning - lots of fun and tons of emergent ideas coming from just idly playing around with scale, rotation, and layering. For instance, blowing up the seashell and using it as a background makes for a great 'action' shot of the foreground!

I take it the debug area is still work in progress (hence, you know, a debug area), but export isn't doing anything but pasting some text in the debug box which then can't be imported ...

Oh, and here's an example of the 'radiant woodchuck' (beaver?) sigil I was playing around with.

Is there any easy way to mirror something? Here are two random things I've played around with for a few minutes only. The ability to scale and rotate is pretty powerful.

Simple scaling and rotation:

Holy crap you guys those are awesome! Love that Radiant Woodchuck! :D

@Smiles - there's a "flip horizontal" and "flip vertical" - it's not exactly mirroring but it's pretty powerful!

I tried my best to replicate the EVE logo!

It's the best I could get with 5 objects.

And I just noticed I added to many horizontal lines. That kind of messes up the E.

I improved on the last design!

You can kind of make an hour glass shape---but an hour glass might be a sweet symbol to throw into the mix, as a nod to the epic timeline of things.

Some more random fun:

I really, really want to see a weasel / ferret in the editor. Please. *sad puppy face* And various plants as well, but mostly ferrets.

The tool's pretty sweet. I'm not a bloodline backer by the way, so feel free to steal that.

Edit: More! This is sort of addictive.

...that's what a ferret looks like, right? I even put in a vector for you. ;)

Seriously though, I'm a little surprised that there are no side views of animals. Maybe that's to discourage a typical "heraldry lion" being used by everyone.

Editor seems pretty solid, even for an early-ish iteration.

One thing that might be a cool addition would be to be able to preview how it would look on an actual character model. It would make what 'primary' and 'secondary' color choices mean more clear to someone who might not know for sure what colors would apply where. Same for a banner, just to see how the sigil they made will look on an actual banner, rather than only in the work space.

Probably would be asking for too much, but I could see it being pretty helpful.

This tool is pretty awesome, I rather approve. Of course the request for more sigils is out there, however I would totally love to see a +/- button on the X/Y/Scale/Rotation sliders, for fine tuning position. Anyway, here's the few I've been making:

Requisite "Jolly Caber" flag.

jolly_caber.png

This one I tried to make a spiral pattern, which didn't work that well. Still looks neat though.

unblinkin_eye.PNG

And finally, electric octopus. Mostly just because I thought the lightning bolt borders were cool and the octopus is the best thing to put in the center.

Raven with ramhorns.

..but the editor needs more things! ;^D

yeah the editor needs more... symbols to use.

that aside it's cool to see the creative stuff people have come up with using the limited number of items/symbols.

More skin and hair colors, because it bears repeating.

Yeah, if the game can allow some extra variation, it probably would be nice.

Is it also possible to get like a ruler grid on the horizontal and vertical? To know if things are on a straight line visually? Could simply do it like a .doc in Word.

Also -- I accidentally stumbled onto something really cool -- have you guys tried "nesting with alternate colors" ? It can create pretty sweet designs, but doesn't work with all. Check it out:

Ah drafted some compositions for the houses from the Cui Bono random event. Copy the gibberish and paste it in the debug field of the bloodline editor to see how they look.

Prototypes for House Hülsen

I don't know if I'm happy with the colors though.

I've tended to gravitate toward colors that contrast with one another -- in terms of the shade. I don't tend like the dark on dark or light on light experiments I've had. But it is fun to play around.

Cool work, everyone. Here's my attempt at something familiar, somewhat stylized.

Edit: Another one. I saw the eye logo and couldn't resist. I'm sorry.
