      These Forums are closing!   10/04/2019

After more than a decade of serving this community well, these forums have finally run their course and it's time to close them down. That doesn't mean we want to close the doors on our community, quite the opposite!
Our discord server grows ever busier by the day, and we encourage all Double Fine fans to meet us over there www.discord.gg/doublefine In a short time these forums will become a read only archive and will remain that way until they become needed again.
You never know, it might happen.  There is... a prophecy. Thank you all for being part of these forums, and remember that the fun is definitely not over - so please join us on Discord! Love ya, Spaff, Tim, Info Cow, and all of Double Fine.

DF Game Club: Stacking (plus live interview with Lee Petty :D )

Recommended Posts

DOUBLE FINE GAME CLUB: Stacking (starting 20th of September)

The Double Fine Game Club is a community run weekly event where interested gamers play through and come together to discuss what they do and don't like about a particular game (sort of like a book club, but for games). We usually aim to play one or two hours a week, and we normally have somebody streaming the current game so that those who don't have the game or don't feel like playing it again can still feel involved.

Discussion takes place here in the forums and on the Double Fine Game Club home page. Game Club is a very informal weekly chat, and everyone is welcome!

Previous game: Stranded

Next Game: Papo & Yo

Why does the GOG link say "Steam (Mac, Windows)"?

Mostly because I messed up ^_^

Woo, a great session. Thanks to everybody who joined us today!

We've got stream archives of the interview up (part 1, part 2) as well as the chat log.

I'm hoping to get a transcript of the interview together within the next week or so, but it'll depend on how much free time I can scrape together. I'll also look at updating the timestamp URLs in the previous game club interview transcripts too.

Damn, just missed this, really wanted to be there for this one. One of my favorite games ever. I'm going to listen to the interview now, but just to be sure, you guys did make him admit that Stacking 2 is coming after Costume Quest 2 right? There's that Stacking History Museum concept art that never made it into the game...

Edit: Oh boy, just got to the part where he describes what Stacking 2 would be, only to end with '...so yeah, that's Stacking 2 - which may never happen...'

Lee, I'd kiss you on the lips if you make this work.

Edit2: Oh man and now he's talking about DLC that never got made. Multiplayer Stacking? Christ, Petty, why do you keep breaking my heart.

Today he was talking about a zombie themed DLC in chat

We've got a third stacking session and Lee has said he'll be there next week as well. Fingers crossed that you can make it to that one ^_^

I hope so! I'll do my best, but I always tend to miss live internet things like this. The interview was great btw, good job on that. I had to download the game again because of it.

If I'm not able to be there, I was hoping someone could ask him about that concept art of the Stacking museum that was included in the first game. I was wondering if that environment was intended for an earlier version, DLC, or perhaps the sequel idea he was talking about?

Also tell him I'd buy 10 copies of the sequel. It's still my favorite 'medium-sized' Double Fine game!

The chat log and stream archive from today's session is up in the first post. Thanks to everybody who joined us today, and a big thanks to Chad and Lee for giving up some of their weekend.

Lee tweeted some more concept art after the stream.

Here're all the images Lee shared with us over the past couple of weeks:

And there's also this discussion on Twitter with Kee Chi.

Next week, we'll be making a start on Papo & Yo.

In the meantime though, what did everybody think of Stacking?

This game, along with Costume Quest 1, were the first df games i had ever played. I really liked the game since it was accessible for me, who at the time had only played less than a handful of adventure games. Beyond that, I really liked that style the game had that i had never seen in games before, excluding cq. Having the opportunity to replay it for the stream, I really enjoyed looking back at it and taking it all in again, now having more experience playing adventure games. It helped me to appreciate how rare of a game it was to have the challenge of any other adventure game of old, but still had some of the simple features that helped to make the game more approachable whenever you came across a difficult puzzle. I really hope that df will always continue to have that kind of innovative charm to both its core gameplay and its overall thematic design that makes double fine one of my all time favourite developers.
