Quake running on oscilloscope--level style ideas?

I know this is old hat, but I wanted to bring it up:

Look at the way the oscilloscope draws the polygons; it would be amazing to have a virtual environment that presents itself that way--glitchy flashing and all--without the oscilloscope.

Yep, cool, most of the atmosphere comes from the sound design and the reduced visual information, like enabling a somehow blinded person seeing things, he otherwise wouldn't see and representing it in such a "signal" based way but from a certain point on improving the complexity/visual quality will be indirect proportional to the benefit you get out from this. Plus whilst a demo is cool, it's like with those black & white games, at some point you'll miss colours and additional information.

It could be nice to use this as a game design element though, tuning into worlds (finding, stabilising, layering), in order to see the world or certain objects you want to interact with.
