Let's Support Each Others' Steam Game Reviews!

Recommended Posts

Apparently some spiteful person went down the full list of all my Steam Game Reviews and downvoted them all, while a second person did the same for all my Double Fine game reviews specifically. Ugh. (That would be less annoying if any of my friends bothered rating the reviews I post, but instead most of my reviews are now at 0/2 helpful. Looks bad.) I don't understand how Steam doesn't have a system to automatically red-flag that kind of griefing, since it allows bullies to anonymously silence someone they don't like and there's nothing the victim can do about it except completely delete their reviews and repost / write new ones...

Or drown out the negativity with positivity! Let's do that for each other!

We're a sizable community of very supportive folks with almost no trolls in our midst, so who better to suggest this to? Essentially, you check out my reviews and I'll check out all of yours, and we can all up-rate each other and drown out the trolls, griefers, and Double-Fine haters! Not that I'd ask you to up-rate any review you genuinely don't think is good, of course (and I'm open to constructive criticism!)

I'm on steam as CrashFu (same as everywhere else) so you can find all my reviews at http://steamcommunity.com/id/CrashFu/recommended/

How about you guys? Also, feel free to shoot me a friendlist invite (and mention here if you want folks in the DF community to do the same for you!)

I went through your list and supported the games I've played. That's really dumb someone spent the time to just downvote your reviews. Some frickin' people, I swear.

Appreciate it! Have you written any reviews yourself? If so post your steam name and I'll give them a look!

And yeah, the problem is that it doesn't take any time at all to mass-downrate someone. You just go to their review page and start clicking. All with no abuse counter-measures whatsoever.

I'm also still bothered by the fact that you only need to technically own a game, and not have actually played it for any reasonable amount of time, to write a review on it. I don't want to take this thread off-topic talking about the conspiracy against Spacebase (especially since I've spoken my mind in length on other threads) but suffice it to say... Steam's entire review/rating system is one big joke, given how terrible its community is.

Glad to help! I don't write reviews, unfortunately. My writing skill isn't exactly up to scratch. And yeah, I do agree that Steam should really take a look at how their system works. Broken Age's front page is full of negative reviews despite the "86% positive" status.

Playtime is pretty prominently displayed though.

People doing this is the main reason the reddit style upvote/downvote system is absurd. People have done this on DF games. I don't know if this is still the case, but Broken Age has mostly positive/recommended reviews, but some d**kholes went through and upvoted the negative reviews and downvoted the positive reviews to fill the front page with red thumbs. I don't know why sites insist on copying this mechanism.

Okay first of all you forgot about reblogging all my tumblr posts, jeez.

And secondly why the snark? I didn't actually demand people just blindly upvote ALL my stuff, I suggested we support each other because there are people out there who will downvote people's reviews out of personal spite or just because they hate the game and don't care what your reason for liking it is, they just want to make it look bad...

Meanwhile people hardly ever take the time to upvote good reviews. Even their own friends'! So there's an imbalance here where bias and pettiness are reigning supreme, and I thought it would be nice to combat that with positivity.

Also I really wanted to read my fellow community-members reviews as much as I wanted them to read mine. Starting to think nobody here bothers writing the things, even on Double Fine games? That's no good. :(

My stuff is pretty long form (usually waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay beyond Steam's character count for reviews). I pop up excerpts of my articles and crossposts from when I write for other sites (which tends to be shorter than my cheesetalks.net stuff) from time to time. They can be found here
