On July 4th, when Americans are all celebrating, I can't help but feel like they're just late.  Our national day is 3 days prior.

We've been avoiding downtown Oslo on the national day ever since we got kids, since it's much too crowded to be a pleasant place to look after children, in our opinions. Instead we spent the day at my wife's mother's place, mostly relaxing. The kids got plenty of cake and ice cream to eat and ran around and played at a nearby school, where they had arranged activities for the kids, until they were completely exhausted. In two years, my son is in third grade and will have to participate in the parade with his school, so we're enjoying the freedom while it lasts. :)

I have no kids, so me and my friends just have a big breakfast before going outside to enjoy singing and ice cream. But because of the weather this year, we didn't go outside until four o' clock. Which meant we had a seven hour breakfast! We then went to another friend's place to have sausages, before going out for a drink in the evening.

Pretty good day.

RIP Chris Cornell.

If I would have pointed to one idol I've had as a grown up, it would have been Chris Cornell. Out of the artists we've lost recently, this is the heaviest for me.

Yeah.  He hung himself.

The guy had everything.  He must have had some serious problems.  I'm not going to all of a sudden pretend like I was a huge fan.  Soundgarden was okay and I didn't really give Audioslave much of a chance after disliking the first single.  I always liked Pearl Jam more.  It's sad that he's gone and even sadder how it happened.  Shocking.

I had no idea who he was and can't think of a single song from either of his bands so I'm completely lost. Sucks when cool people die though, and I'm guessing he was pretty cool if people liked him enough to be sad he's dead.

You never heard of Soundgarden?!

To be fair, they only had 3 hit songs.  It's kind of like asking someone whom isn't a fan, to name some Smashing Pumpkins songs.  Sure there were a few hits, but nothing that really transcended the genre.

He was cool and extremely talented. If you haven't heard of him, there are tons of great songs from him to discover, in various genres and themes. If you're interested, I can recommend these to start with:

Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun
Soundgarden - Mind Riot
Soundgarden - Rusty Cage
Soundgarden - Halfway There
Soundgarden - Birds of Prey
Audioslave - Doesn't Remind Me
Audioslave - Yesterday to Tomorrow
Audioslave - Show Me How To Live
Audioslave - Like A Stone
Chris Cornell - Can't Change Me
Chris Cornell - Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart
Chris Cornell - Pillow of Your Bones
Chris Cornell - You Know My Name (The Bond Theme Song)

And of course, the Temple of the Dog songs, even if Eddie Vedder is singing most of Hunger Strike on the album.

I too wish to join in the socialist utopia of the Swedes. Let us all abandon the nations put upon us by the circumstance of our birth and declare ourselves Swedish, or at least go work for Swedish companies.

And let us congratulate fargetv for having the courage to pursue the life he deserves, instead of the one he was told to accept. Truly, you are a hero!

Ha, ha! Thank you!

Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun
Audioslave - Cochise
Chris Cornell - You Know My Name

are the three songs I think of when I think of Chris Cornell.

I think out of all the Daniel Craig-era Bond themes, You Know My Name is my favorite. I like Skyfall, I didn't care for Another Way To Die, and The Writing's On The Wall was ruined for me by Sam Smith singing like his mouth is stuffed with cotton balls.

I just tried jalapeno limeade… this is the weirdest sensation ever: cool refreshing limeade chased by “I just ate a bowl of salsa”.

I kinda like it.

Did it ever dawn on any of you that Tales Of Monkey Island dropped a pretty big bombshell at the very end? I didn't get it at first, and I know it wouldn't be part of Ron Gilbert's original intended canon, but that would have been one hell of a plot twist if it turned out that the Voodoo Lady was secretly the one instigating the rivalry between Guybrush and LeChuck. Think about it:

If Threepwood has forgotten who she is, she will always lie to him and say she did more to help than she actually did.

She foresees Threepwood's adventures concerning LeChuck, but perhaps the real trick is that she manipulates her prophecies to happen.

In MI2, she made a large delivery of Voodoo supplies to LeChuck's Fortress. It is possible that this was not the first delivery that she made. Perhaps she had supplied LeChuck's Voodoo Priest with the necessary ingredients for the voodoo doll he was making.

In CoMI she led Threepwood to find a diamond ring, closely related to LeChucks past. It is not unreasonable to believe other such rings may have existed elsewhere and she chose this one on purpose.

In MI2, when she is met Threepwood can ask 'Do I know you?'. She will then claim to be the one who told him where to get the voodoo root and how to brew the ghost killing mixture. This is not true even if Threepwood had met her before.

In CoMI if Threepwood acts as though he does not know who she is, she claims to have both prepared the voodoo anti-root to destroy the Ghost LeChuck and helped prepare the voodoo doll to use against the zombie LeChuck.

She readily chooses to resurrect LeChuck at the end of ToMI.

One of the last remaining bits of my childhood. Finally, I can close the book on it.

But damn it all to Hell, I didn't want it to end!
