Music of Stacking - Classical music by whom?

Recommended Posts

I first heard the main music of Stacking and recognized the classical pieces used, but I can't for the life of me remember what the songs are. It sounds like Chopin, but I've gone through most of my Chopin collection trying to find the song. Then I thought Mendelssohn and his Songs without Words, but still can't find the work. Can anyone tell me what classical music is used in the game Stacking? I know Peter McConnell wrote the original stuff, but I can't find what the other music is.

I've been wondering about that too. My mother has quite a collection of classical music. I've heard them before. But even my mother couldn't tell.

would've loved to hear Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata in it though

hooray! I second the notion of seeking out the music.

I need some awesome classical music to listen to while working, not like that all "not-awesome" classical music out there. Which, I must admit, there is very little, but still, the choices for Stacking are great, and I'd love to have a soundtrack.

The main theme is Chopin's Mazurka in B-flat (op. 7, no. 1) :)

nice!

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply. I knew it had to be Chopin. I had gone through all his Nocturnes and Preludes... I should have gone through the Mazurkas as well. :)

Can anyone tell me what was the jazzy theme used in the trailer for Stacking? It kind of reminded me of some of the themes used in the Jeeves and Wooster tv series.

Would you guys happen to know which music piece is used at the cemetery and the tunnel that connects it to the the main hub on The Lost Hobo King DLC?

It creates a very eerie atmosphere for the area and I immediately fell in love with it.

This is Tchaikovsky's 5th, right?

It was a smart choice to use serious music for a silly game.

Stacking Soundtrack List

March 16, 2011 at 3:25pm

Hello Stacking/Doublefine Fans! Here is the complete soundtrack list from Stacking. I’ve included a few notes that should give further insight to our wonderful score. Stacking contains nearly all live acoustic instruments and live players for its score. This was an ambitious and challenging music direction for a downloadable game. But the payoff was certainly well worth it as the music richly envelops the already lush and magical world of Stacking. Enjoy! – Brian Min, Lead Sound Designer/Music Director.

Press Start Screen

Chopin’s Mazurka Bb Major Op7N1 “Charlie’s Theme”

Opening Cutscene – Peter McConnell (Peter had the daunting task of emulating some of the greatest works of music in history! Wonderful live performances!)

TrainStation

Chopin’s Mazurka Bb Major Op7N1 “Charlie’s Theme”

Chopin’s Polonasie C Minor Op40N2 (these pieces reoccur on other levels)

Chopin’s Sonata Grave Op35 (these pieces reoccur on other levels)

Chopin’s Sonata Scherzo Op35 (these pieces reoccur on other levels)

Paganini Violin Concerto Number 4 Movement 1 (Ingame /Trainstation Music /Flyby’s/ Levi the Hobo Themes)

“Lounging Around” – by Brian Min

(Many of the pieces in Stacking have been digitally edited and processed to create a seamless custom score like feel. Modern audio tools really came in handy, such as convolution reverbs, to “virtually” place many recordings that were tracked elsewhere, into the same “space”.)

SteamShip

Vivaldi Four Seasons Winter Movement 2 (The lesser known of the Four Seasons, but just as stellar, is the opening cinematic flyby music for the Steamship)

Vivaldi Concerto for Strings in G Major Presto

Zeppelin

Brahms Academic Festival Overture “Dog Race” “Ambassor Themes”

(The big fanfare plays during the reveal of the Dog Race Tracks and I think this Brahm’ pieces is just SO appropriate.)

Mozart’s Menuetto 5 K334 “Dinner Party”

Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 5 “Zeppelin Crashing and Crash States”

Zeppellin ingame music – Peter McConnell

Baron’s Theme and Triple Decker/Final Challenge

Felix Mendelssohn’s Concerto for Violin and Piano (You hear this piece the very first time when you meet the Baron and it really sets up nicely foreshadowing the subsequent tension you feel in the TripleDecker and the Final Challenge. Despite Chopin being “centerstage” in the beginning of the game, it’s really this concerto that carries and finishes the game. The depth of this Mendelssohn piece really shines as it was used to vilify the Baron while at the same time used to scored the tender reunion between Charlie and his Mom. This is one of my all time favorite concertos, which is why it’s in the game! )
