Kickstarter Project Collection Thread

I think it's good that you mention it. I'm kinda curious if that's an exception or more games like this will follow.

We got another one of this type it seems:

* Tortured Hearts - or, How I Saved The Universe. Again.

On the other Hand: Can we really hold it against developers to invest their own money into these projects and then just sell a few licenses and other goodies? Not everyone has the pull and reputation to get a reasonable budget kickstarted. We also have to remember that not every type of Indie Game is unfeasible to produce alone or in conjunction with Publishers.

Takedown also did not really get enough Money to make the Game. I am a bit concerned about this. In my opinion a VG Kickstarter Project should NOT set a minimum Target that is to low to actually create the game. This has a high possibility of ending badly.

Doesn't look like it in this case. They seem to have everything done... but the graphics, the engine, the interface ;). So the probably most expensive part's still missing. And i totally believe that because the preview graphic suck a bit (I wouldn't want to spend many hours surrounded by these graphics). Seems like they tried to quickly make something to show it to us...

Or they simply want to beef up their engine. Though they should have invested in a better Video or at least better Audio-Quality.

This one also looks quite Polished:

* Republique by Camouflaj + Logan

But again: Can we really hold it against them to have already invested a potentially substantial Amount of Money? Not everyone has the Pull & Reputation of Tim Schafer / Brian Fargo / etc. ..?

I think that engine would need so much beefing up, I can totally see why they can't afford it... ;)

Shadowrun Returns sounds interesting. I never played the original game, I'll have to investigate...

The backers-only mission in Shadowrun Returns is also a nice idea :)

I feel these guys deserve a mention as their kickstarter could use a bit of a push and the devs are super passionate, having funded the existing game and what they have so far with their own money and time. I believe they have worked on it for about 2 years so far.

Grim Dawn is by Crate, some former Iron Lore guys who made Titan Quest.

Their presentation video has some good footage of the game and a rundown of it's features and vision.

Thanks for your suggestion. Though Shadowrun was already in the List for a few Days when you submitted your Post.

Not a game but highly game relevant... Chris Huelsbeck wants to record a turrican soundtrack anthology with an orchestra!

IMO his soundtrack for Turrican II was maybe the best thing that ever happened on the Amiga!!!

Aaaaand.... Chris Huelsbeck is backing DFA :) YAY !!!

And for those who don't know the soundtracks...

I think it will be amazing with an orchestra :)

Pebble trending towards >20,000% of its goal.

I have to admit, I don't get why this is so insanely popular. A bulky, unattractive watch with a week of battery life gets millions of dollars because it syncs with your iphone? Weird. And the kicktraq website is good for seeing trends, but its predictions are pretty much worthless at this point. It just uses a naive algorithm based on the overall overages, which is not really how projects have trended up until now.

I'd also like to draw attention to this recently started campaign Legends of Eisenwald. It's a HoMM/King's Bounty style strategy game set in a low-fantasy world. It looks quite interesting to me.

[...], but its predictions are pretty much worthless at this point.

I agree that they're currently doing a poor job at that.

Yes, the only thing I find useful is that they tell you how many backers and how much fundings the campaign has made each day. That's a good overview to draw better conclusions (especially after ~10 days it provides pretty good data).

.... DO WANT! I love Chris Huelsbeck's tracks. This is a must for game music nerds.

Just shame it isn't a new Turrican altogether. ;)

So what other projects have sprouted up? I've been keeping a thread updated on a forum I visit regularyly and I'm trying to find out what other ones are popping up?

I'll look into it. Though the new Projects keep getting more and more uninteresting. It seems like everyone wants to jump the Kickstarter Bandwagon without understanding the reasons for Doublefines Success.

((On an unrelated Note. Where are the Updates by Double Fine? I was expecting a update frequency that is a bit higher than Quasi-"Never". At least they could have mentioned something like: "Only once in a Month". I thought they wanted to tell us about Game Development, would it be that difficult to do a few short blogposts or something like that? I guess this Documentary is just as deep as all the other Game Documentaries and "Making Of"'s out there. ))

Well, a good few of the initial ones seemed interesting. I guess yeah I'm looking to see if any more credible ones have popped up.

It beats me why a remake - remake - of Larry 1 has accrued 600 000 USD, while the original, innovative, living and breathing Republique is stuck at 150 000 USD.

Republique is obviously an adventure game with a unique approach to the main character - she's not you, but she's not a puppet either, and instead has an agency of her own.

I upped my pledge multiple times, but this can only go so far. Please take a look and see Republique for yourself.

I have to be honest, I've not given Republique a good look until now. Yeah it is a bit sad it hasn't been funded. It looks pretty pro, but being honest, I've seen that sort of "guide" game before and it never looked that interesting, and the main character doesn't seem much deep at all. That said, I want to see it exist, because it does look interesting.

I definitely want to see this skyjackers thing work too.

You're right, common misconception is that the "trend" is a prediction. Nope, it's a trend, trends aren't forecasts or predictions. But, I'm doing my best to work on that, but it's a bit like trying to forecast the stock market. Right now I'm using category-specific weights, but I'll need more project data than just the handful of projects I have to refine.

Take a peek at the experimental charts at the bottom of the project page, just click on [π] to see them.

Hey, I didn't see anyone mention this, so...

Anyone heard about Dead State?

They've been considering about Kickstarting their project.

There are so many zombie games these days, but I can't say I wouldn't be enjoying them.

Also, this one has Brian Mitsoda (did writing work on Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, which is one of my favorite games).

I believe the problem with Republique is that it started out as just an iOS game with a rather high target, and late in the game opted to add PC/Mac support. I don't think people were willing to fork out 500k for an iOS only game... I know that killed my interest in it early on.

Now, not to turn this thread into a Republique discussion, I will add my own find, Drifter: A Space Trading Game:

Because People hate Escort-Missions and Stealth-Games?

Also the iOS-only-Bit.
