Writing Update #3: Let's brainstorm Locations together!

Recommended Posts

A level where there's a prototype unit of currency on a pedestal somewhere - you can switch it out with another item and that instantly becomes the new legal currency. For example - put a stapler on the pedestal and everyone's money immediately becomes worthless and they start spending staplers instead. It could totally change the economy.

Gangs of Los Angeles Consortium (where rival gangs come together to exchange procedural and ethical ideas about hustlin, gangwar, execution and family)

World with Inverted Topography (oceans stretch to the sky and mountains are depressions. This could make the popular 'Marianas Trench' response really interesting!)

Plane Ride with Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper on a Very Special Day

Chinese Factory that Makes Counterfeit People

Luminescent Building inside of which Light Sources create Darkness

In a V-Formation with Migrating Canadian Geese

The Berlin Wall

On an Operating Table

In a Job Interview (oh wait, that's already a game)

At a Rock Show

At a Club with Lotsa Bumpin and Grindin and Drinky-Drinkin

- A room with mirrors everywhere, so you see yourself reflected everywhere.

- A city on the back of a giant whale, build around his blowhole.

- A small gas station in space providing fuel for alien spaceships

- In a factory producing evil things for evil people with evil plans

A pillow/mattress factory, run by sheep

Cyberspace

A haunted mansion, filled with ghosts who are scared of a human that's creeping around

A self referential level taken from a previous game that you've made

A 70's disco, or similar locations of funk

A day care filled with hilariously crazy or mean kids

A paintball warzone with overly dramatic soldiers and chest-high walls

An Atlantis-like utopia

I know my last post was about a mechanical sort of world already, but after reviewing that post, it reminded me of Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum and I thought maybe this crazy place could offer up some unique inspiration:

A coin operated mechanical world?

This is one of my favorites.

-The Land of Adults as anticipated by kids

I, too, love this one.

there are so many good ideas in this thread! I'm sure all of my ideas are probably not right for this game but here goes anyway:

1. A wreck on the ocean floor, a colossal ship battered, broken, rusty and teeming with various forms of sea-life. The proper ocean floor too, completely pitch black and untouched by the sun, you'd have to guide yourself by grabbing some kind of bioluminescent creature and use it as a torch. I love the feel of the decaying interior of the hotel in Silent Hill 2 and that in complete darkness and underwater would be very intriguing to explore. The tension from exploring the ship's creepy decks and corridors could build to some awesome moments, be it scary or humourous depending on what way you wanted to go.

2. When I was young one of my favourite places was a little hidey-hole. I had a bed that you had to climb up ladders to get to, underneath the bed was a cupboard that my clothes were hung up in, if you went through the clothes there was an open space, it was about three quarters of the bed long and taller than me so I could stand up in it, it was pretty small but seemed like a big space to me at the time, it wasn't exactly a secret hide-out or anything but I didn't need it to be, the discovery of exciting grown-up literature and the need for a place to stash it would come way later in the future, it was just a nice wee place to hang out. I'm not saying that particular location exactly but a hidey-hole that is kind of pathetically hidden but just hidden enough from the rest of the world. It also seems like nothing special but means a lot to someone for some reason, that's kind of an idea I like.

3. A library/bookshop, I know this has been done before and done well, who can forget the Phatt Island library! A list of hilarious book titles to browse would never be unwelcome though. There is just something about a room full of books that I like, hundreds of potential adventures to be had, always enjoy a good library or bookshop.

4. A character wakes up under their duvet but can't find their way out, it's just mattress as far as the eye can see in all directions, they crawl for what seems an age until the duvet above their head swoops upwards to form a quilty sky and ahead of them a world made of mattress and pillows, I think I've just thought of this one because I'm tired and needing my bed though.

I apologise for being quite long-winded on a couple of those.

Huh unchained creativeness... dangerous

Ok i think about different flavors ..

Flavor IT

Much like Tron .. but without a love-story.. every character has one purpose... maybe you can alter them with methods and procedures?

So the environment is made out of lines and squares, blinking lights and energieflashes

Flavor Super Happy Time

Everyone is happy and there is nothing bad in the world... if someone dies, everyone's memory gets wiped of him/her.

Same for bad weather, sicknesses, etc.. but who wipes the minds.. and why

Environment: Green Parks, colourfull houses in the 50's style (like in Tim Burtons Edward Scissorhand)

Flavor Odo-rant World

The creatures in this world haven't got good eyes.. everything looks grey, everything far away is just a blur.. but they can smell .. where someone was before an hour, was he scared, was he happy... you can see it with your nose...

Environment: Like our world, but every odor gets a color, footprints, car exhaust emissions, flowers, tree's, aso..

Flavor morbid horror ..

A putrescent body... you play on a bacteria or worm-sized creature.. so you won't see the whole mess .. but there will be a lot of weird looking flesh, gases and ... slime..

Flavor normal horror

A scared child in its bed, the room is dark an full of shadows and.. monsters in it, the glowing skull on the cabinet, the noises form out of it.. the hissing under the bed..

Flavor Post-human Future

There was a war and humanity died out.. they left huge deserts, wild weather and lots of empty, decaying city's.

It's a few thousand years in the future. Exploding nuclear plants have accelerated mutations and a few, strong species evolved to the next state, got a kind of intelligence. The rats, the cockroaches and the Gingkotree trees. They see the world in different ways and struggle to survive against all odds and the other species. Who can achive world domination .. for the known world...

Environment: Lots of Deserts, in the near of water walking Tree-Forests, in the underground huge Tunnelsystems with sleepingchambers and workplaces, outside huge storms with lightings in the background.

Flavor Australien Greatspirit Mixup

Australia, red sand everwhere, dry bushes here and there. A Totem Pole in the middle of nowhere and all natural spirits sit around it.

1920s San Francisco

1920s San Francisco, where most communication occurs through masks

2920s San Francisco, strangely similar to 1920s San Francisco

My senior prom, looking in from the outside

Several years into a summer that never ends

A world without fuel

A world being invaded for its fuel by a world without fuel

The universe's most powerful, clean and efficient fuel source, unknown to all, inhabited by few, and hurtling through space at breakneck speed

A world without invasion being fueled by invasion

^-- Better yet, an eerily peaceful world being kept blissfully unaware and safe by a massive, brutal war somewhere else

A world where everyone grows up with a twin, but at some point have to decide which of them lives and which of them dies

The Department of Alternate Dimensions and Timeline Security

Where people *actually* go when they die

The Department of Reincarnation

David Caruso's rich, leathery face (YEAAAAAHHHHH)

A world in which everyone gets $1,000 at birth and it has to last their whole life

Moonbase Europa, where we're pretty sure that this time the crew won't end up killing each other within the week

The trees have eyes, and some of them solve crimes

The desert in a world with only one Oasis

1920s San Francisco, in a desert

world full of happy laughing children running around chasing cats and dogs - like a memory of your own childhood - which has a certain melancholy to it - cause you know it will never come back - the view should make you happy anyway -like the only one positive thing - you have once everything else is just a job

-In a refrigerator with the lights out (who knows what kind of hijinks go on in there!).

-Marshmallows everywhere.

-JRPG Land in a completely different style from the rest of the game.

-That creepy nowhere world in the episode of Spongebob when Squidward breaks the time machine (all white, speech bubbles for the word "Alone" pop up everywhere...).

-A convention of mythical creatures who act like normal people (Nessie and Bigfoot sharing drinks, telling silly stories of scaring people and posing for camera shots. Hey, maybe they even shot the footage themselves to get their names out there).

-Sonic Adventure did it, but I love casino themes.

-Heaven, because nobody but Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey has the balls to go there.

A ghost world that has robot ghost dinosaurs that thinks there all historical figures and/or celebrities.

A world that mixes the girlyest and manliest things that live together. For example living barbie dolls and pro wrestlers.

A nerd world that seems like a convetion with coplayers, angry gamers, some over sexed up cosplay girls, what have you.

You wrote hamburg and I thought that was funny because my Idea for you is in Hamburg, lol

Have you ever heard of Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg? I dont know if its a good idea or not but check it out

http://www.miniatur-wunderland.com/

It is The largest model railway in the world, I think it could be be cool location. Being in the model world or just visiting the location in the game, idk, just an idea.

Also how about:

A place where everything is inside out

Reverse world - like the episode of Red Dwarf where everything went backwards (if you dont know what i mean check it out)

That's all for now, I will think of more for you
