A world made of photosensitive paper, like old-school B&W paper. You manipulate it, create things in it, with light and stencils or film.

A polygamist colony in Mexico circa 1890. Such a rich time in America's history.

An inescapable wonderland-esque cubicle maze in a bizzaro business world.

The inside of atoms (maybe there are little gnomes who make atomic clockwork and have to make sure electrons keep orbiting properly?)

A "quantum" world where everything you do also causes something that COULD have happened to happen as well.

A world where doing somebody a favor boosts the giver's luck, and lower's the recipient's.

A world where days occur in reverse order, so each day you need to make sure to do the things that caused the previous days events.

A world where childhood games have power (the floor is lava when children say it is, you literally freeze when tagged in freeze-tag, your mother's back breaks when you step on a crack, etc)

- A purgatory like room where to escape you have to convince 3 execs of "not EA" to help you with your wacky idea for escaping, but they won't do it because they'd rather avoid the risk.

- Moorea, French Polynesia. Iguazú Falls (pretty locations!)

- A place where everyone talks in 140 char bits, they all ignore you and the topic changes every 2 seconds.

- The "never'll happen room", a room where you can view the future you want, but doing so ensures it'll never happen in reality.

- The "poopcam room", a room where a supercomputer grants you access to see anyone in the world doing number 2 (and only number 2!)

- The good endings room, a room where a secret evil cabal has hidden the actually good endings for Lost, BSG and...MI 2? ;)

- The eighth level of hell, the newer addition in the building, where they are condemning all souls to play Farmville for all eternity.

A world where people can't get within 20 feet near one another without merging into one person that combines their collective personalities into one unified personality.

A world where a person's significance/importance reflects purely on their physical size.

Teapot worship ceremony - where the teabag people sacrifice a virgin teabag for their giant teapot god.

Cable-railway train ride above an infinite abyss. Every round hour an alarm sounds and all passengers must co-operate to jump to the train to their left before current train falls down.

A place where you can communicate with creatures that wander through space in a difference way. Their right leg can be on Jupiter and their left arm on Venus.

Not sure how well you guys could use this, but I would love to see a game that visits a location very similar to The Giant's Causeway.

http://www.akademifantasia.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/giants-causeway-2.jpg

http://www.dalriadacottage.co.uk/giants/1.jpg

It's a location that is famous because of the natural forming hexagon stones that developed over the years.

Myst 3 featured this island, and I think this style is something that should be played on in other games-- it is both beautiful, and mystifying.

I would love to see something like this in a modern game.

Here's some quick thoughts:

-Ice world

-World shaped like a Möbius strip

-Inside the dream of a dog

-Easter Island with moai wearing hats

-Inside a washing machine

-Ice world

Can't think of anything but ice worlds now...

-Great Barrier Reef or similarly coral ocean

-Deep ocean with the giant squids who eat whales and other complete unknowns

-Unfinished Theme Park - like one of the dozens all across Asia

-Retired Olympic Stadium and all the remaining peripheral buildings for events

-Synesthesia inspired, particularly sound experienced as colours(Chromesthesia)

-An area previously experienced, but with characters personalities, functions, dialogue, or purpose, etc are switched about.

-A wedding, where you are trying to avoid detection from the wedding party

-the "Biggest Something". prawn, baseball bat, easter egg, etc Every place in the world has some kind of oversized roadside attraction.

-X enjoying Y in place Z. Prohibition speak easy, but not time/era specific nor alcohol. Maybe Teenagers and comic books, or seniors and yo-yos, etc.

-A maze made of words. Changes layout based on words spoken.

-A "real planet that puts science fiction to shame"

Gliese 436 b - Coated in burning ice

PSR B1257+12 b - Orbits a pulsar and glows blue

Gliese 581 c - a red sky which would result in planet life being black to grow

That Jell-o Maze actually sounds pretty kick ass... hmm.

All the ideas I'm thinking of have been done by other games I think... You go through a computer, I don't mean electronically I mean your inside an actual computer type place. I remember as a kid my dad would take apart some electronics, for some reason, and I'd just stare thinking all the chips and wires ended up looking like a tiny city. Tiny electric people live there and try and keep in shape. It's dumb and I'm sure they're way better ideas on this thread.

Also random idea, a place were babies are made... no no no not like that! An actual baby factory! All the workers are storks. I guess I'm just thinking of Looney Tunes cartoons. Oh well that's my thoughts.

The absolutely deepest, most uncharted spots of the ocean. A place so far from human logic you might call anything living in there an alien!

Also, I've always heard about those massive WW2-era bunkers that got locked\sealed up at the end of the war. I'd always want to visit there, but they're probably terrifying.

Forgive me if they're a bit cliche. I'm glad to hear this game will have such variety, though!

Ideas are hard.

Here you are some interesting places.

Inside a tokamak¿?.

A world that can be transformed by character’s memories, the memories can be places, objects or events that have taken place in DFA.

The real world with opposed gravity direction, going from one place to another becomes then harder.

A psychedelic world you can arrive to only if you take “drugs”, these drugs have to best stupidly creative like grass joints, gunpowder…(yeah, they are not the best examples).

The island of picture frame stock photo refugees.

The floor that feels pain.

A world where everything is controlled or manipulating via trading cards - collect the right cards and play them at the right time to get ahead - or even just to order lunch.

A world where literally all vices (and maybe virtues too?) are allowed but are heavily regulated. Example: you can tell a lie, but you only get 1 class-A lie and 7 class-B lies per week.

A MMORPG-like world where the NPCs are rebelling against the annoying players who keep doing things like bursting into their houses and smashing their pots looking for money.

A world where the style or brand of your clothing gives you different powers depending in what's in vogue in your current location (Actualy "The World Ends With You" on the Nintendo DS had something like this, but I think it could be taken further).

A future museum where 20th and 21st century artifacts are on display and the museum curators have grossly misunderstood their purposes.

Ice sculpture world

Acid trip land (with blue grass and green sky)

The asteroid belt

A bioluminescent forest or cave

Paint by numbers (A level that gets filled in over time)

Hell (or A Heaven and Hell mash up)

Caricature land (where everything has exaggerated features)

Old-timey black and white land

Dinosaurs with technology

Rollercoaster theme park

A burning forest

Amish steampunk

The apocalypse (Everybody does post-apocalypse, I want tornadoes, earthquakes, and frogs falling from the sky)

Tesla's Vision (A world of Tesla coils, controlled arcs of lightning, and complex electrical circuits)

Plaid world

An underwater world where land animals have adapted to become sea creatures.

The neighborhood with too many Christmas lights.

A village of extremely stupid aliens who use rudimentary, technologically inferior devices.

I could play this game all day, but I'll stop there. I don't think I can top Amish Steampunk.
