Writing Update #3: Let's brainstorm Locations together!

Recommended Posts

Here! Or a room that acts in almost perfect symmetry, but not quite. Maybe the characters could pass through each other in a mirror, but not be in the same world at the same time.

A really good burrito shop where they sell the best burritos.

In fact, burritos could be like this magical life-giving object in one world but non-existent in the other. So one character is just finding mad burritos during the adventure while the other has no burritos to speak of. Eventually, the characters meet in the nexus of the universe which happens to be in a burrito shop. And they share a really great burrito.

-The infinite wonderland of goods that is the "back room" of a toy store

-A city on the twilight edge of a planet which never rotates.

-Inside a student's class project diorama.

-At a convention for general irritants and irritators.

-A sunken wig factory

-A city made of doors

-A city made from lashed-together house boats

-An aquatic caravan

-A covered wagon trip to Neptune

-An ivory mosque rising from a shallow sea

-A support group for proto-planets

-The colonized corpse of a dead God, tumbling blindly through the void.

-An town inside an infinite library

-A fungal complex the size of Manhattan

-Opening day at Coney Island

-Neolithic Grand Central Station

-A living printing press

-A prism of light

-The dream of the last dinosaur

-A world of wood engraving

-The hanging gardens

-A Dadaist universe

-A Constructivist universe

-The underside of a flat Earth

Is that too much? I've got more. I'll wait a little before the rest.

Did you paint that? I'm assuming you did since it's signed with a similar name to your login. Checked out your photobucket album, very cool and creative stuff. Reminds me of adventure games, actually. In the picture 'Rebirth!', I'm pretty sure I spotted someone looking very similar to the oh-so-hateable Cedric the Owl from King's Quest V. Ah, memories!

- Inside the human muscular system

- An abstract rendition of a brain (i.e. what they're thinking about is present, memories could be blurred etc).

- To the edge of the universe

- Nostalgia as a place (i.e. everything is familiar and perfect)

- Atomic level

- FURNITURE STORE!

- Cyber-funk (we're talking Bootsy Collins funk)

- An alternate universe where everyone is the god of something (i.e. everyone has complete power over something random)

- A stream of memories

- The aftermath of an Ice level where everything is just wet

- A world where everything that happens is from a famous scene in a movie or book

- A digital clock-tower

- A bouncy Castle

- On the back of the Double Fine logo

I might come back with more later..

- Evil cute bunnies that chase hunters forest

- inside a giant long dead robot/android

- a city on a enormous flying fish

- a station (possibly in space) where a mad AI has taken over.

- a market where everyone smiles

- a field or forst of abandoned knight armour

- A humongous concrete city where nature is scarse and rarely seen by people

- airship/zeppelin

- ghetto/graffity/subway type stuff

- aztec society in the 21st century

I really like the contrast of large cities and open nature environments surrounding it.

Also the relation of the environment to the main-character and storytelling I think is really important. One of the many things I love about Grim Fandango is that Manny comes in places he is known with and he explores new places with the player.

A stairwell.

Seriously. I'm in a wheelchair and I've never been in a stairwell.

...Too boring? Fine. Make it an icy stairwell. :-)

A space station. No that's too simple. An earth station. IN SPACE! Space.

No ice level? How about a water level?

No fire level? How about a lava level? :P

Anyway, I'm fascinated by the unique flora and fauna of the island Socotra. Click through all the images, the trees look amazing!

- A place where you can enter into the scene of a photograph

- A stone masons secret liar (like giant stone water slides but replace the water with gravel)

- A world where everyone talks in rap battle and there is always a beat being laid down

- Cleaning up after a party (possibly a squid party (or even a squid party in zero gravity O_o))

- Constant falling

- More of a possible mechanic, but you'd be in an area with a quota of light and would have to say switch off a light to turn on another etc

- A bar that didn't serve anything

- A forum

- Mash-ups of historical times and places or themes i.e. Ancient Roman Picasso painting

- In a pineapple under the sea

- A documentary team following you everywhere

Pirates!

Bring some pirates around, not too rude not too funny but both together. Even like if they where lost or at the wrong century, or asking for directions rather than robing, and robing nonsense. Very tough against weakness and very sneaky against strength, very proud of themselves altogether, even dose times when they sneak out

And bring some super sheeps! "those as useful as holly bombs"

Yes I did, and thank you!

-At the best music festival of a genuinely peaceful civilisation

-A journey through the evolution of fruit and vegetables

-Tim Schafer's Mind

-An underwater amusement park

-The inside of an arcade machine

I think that's all the locations ideas I have for now.

I'd like to see a sci-fi level that is not gritty or realistic but glamorous and sort of Ziggy Stardust-ish. It may have been done some, but I feel it's an underrepresented setting.

Hmmm, this is going to be tough. How about....

A forest where fishes grow on trees

A junkyard for discarded ideas

A land where everyone is a King.

An Assassin convention

A city within a giant bouncing ball

Africa in the 1500's

Inside a matte painting

Skywalker Ranch at night

Inside the tomb of the Pharaoh's gardener

And if all else fails:

An Ice Level.

1 - An SDCC style convention, but set in a different time period. Something like medieval times with knights and painters and wizards replacing the artists, writers and movie stars seen at comic-cons.

2 - Somehow working in social media type sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc, into the level.

I really like the first idea here. Regrettably, I can't think of any great ideas of my own at the moment.

-> A living, moving mountain that you could butcher.

-> A city stuck forever in a war disguised as a carnival.

-> Dreams, deep down in the ocean, that get flooded as you wake up.

Any place described in Serge Brussolo's books,

-> A spider tea house.

-> A post-office near a black hole.

-> Belgium

The abandoned Riverside Hospital on North Brother Island. (Yes, yes, we went to a twisted asylum in Psychonauts, but North Brother Island is just fascinating.)

A Gulag

Inside the Mandelbrot set

A dentist's office

A world that looks different (or doesn't exist) when you look directly at it
