Ouya Version??

Recommended Posts

There's plenty of competition for OUYA in terms of GameStick and other android gaming devices, the GameStick lacks the features of the OUYA, is much slower, and doesn't look to have as good a gamepad, it has some advantages.

It's not even remotely true that other devices are objectively better. Most Android phones are not as fast as the OUYA, they don't have as many ports, they're much more expensive, and their games suck because their made for touch. Consoles from Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are closed platforms, developers have to get licenses, it's hard to root them, it's hard for indie developers to get on them, they charge to get games patched, and they're way more expensive than the OUYA, their games are expensive, and one of them charges you to play online. PC is objectively better in every way, for a price that's many times larger.

Free updates are a two sided sword. If you handle it in a responsible way it's a win. If you misuse it and publish poorly tested products (it's fair to also mention The Cave here) then it's a disadvantage. The beauty of burning a game on a cartridge without a possibility to patch is that a publisher/dev also takes the time to test their products more in depth. The less a game is a living document bugs related, the better.

i agree, but i get the feeling that the alternative of paid patches causes more harm than good. remember when double fine had a patch ready to go for brutal legend on ps3 but they couldn't afford to pay the toll, so it never got patched? they only people who benefit in a case like that are the people charging for the patch.
