That's a pretty thorough list. Are those all films you enjoyed?

It's weird that Futurama is almost 15 years already. It feels like such a short time since I started watching it. Maybe because I've seen it all so many times.

You should check out Farscape. I think it's the best show I've ever watched. Absolutely outstanding.

Thanks.

@flesk

Nope, just the SF films i could remember when i was putting the list together based on my personal taste, so feel free to disagree. There are also tons of SF movies i just don't feel comfy about anymore, especially old ones, dunno, Them (due to the military), Robert Altman's Countdown (too much uninteresting talk), ...

i always find these types of threads go better if you talk about what you liked/disliked about a particular thing instead of just making lists. maybe pick a couple off that list and tell us about what exactly makes it good sci-fi to you.

A.o. too much action just for the sake of action, like in Man of Steel. Too many Iron Man suits flying around ruin the uniqueness and i was bored.

Man whaaaat. That's a lameo lame excuse for not liking a movie if I ever heard one

I don't remember many sci-fi elements from Shawshank Redemption...?

@Bidiot Bales

Great film but do you consider this to be a Science Fiction movie? Sorry, flesk was faster. :o)

Oh right, totally missed that this was only sci-fi movies, explains the absence of quite a few. Okay,I agree with most of the list then. :)

Now that that's sorted, the Sci-fi movie I'll be watching out for this year is The World's End. It's Pegg, Frost and Wright so it's bound to be good. :D

i didn't like iron man 3 because the stuff with the kid and the scene where tony makes weapons out of household supplies feel out of place and like they belong in a home alone movie.

also blowing up all the suits at the end was kind of dumb. also also tony magically gaining the ability to remove the shrapnel from his heart makes iron man 2 seem silly. why didn't he just get the surgery back then? and one more thing, the whole ptsd subplot goes nowhere and would have made a much more interesting conflict for tony than the flaming supervillain whatever.

I thought that

the shrapnel could be removed because Tony shot himself up with a bit of that orange serum

Kids often ruin the films for adults. It's Anakin Skywalker, Wesley Crusher, Short Round, ... vs. Mathilda Lando.

I added some more: Red Lights, Angel-A, Hancock, Captain Future serie, El ángel exterminador, In Time, My favorite Martian serie, Midnight in Paris, Scoop, Space Tourists, Yellow Submarine, Robbi, Tobbi und das Fliewatüüt serie and Ghosts of Mars for the b-movie charm.

I keep forgetting Farscape is on Netflix. I always wanted to get into that show, but I could never get a chance to follow it when it was on TV. In the more recent years I'd have to say BattleStar Galacta was a good Sci-Fi show to me. It sort of fell off a crazy cliff towards the end seasons. But the two part mini-event opening the series, and the first season or two were very enjoyable to me. I also really like Stargate Universe. I know many long time Stargate fans were not happy with the changes of things, but I thought it was a good show. Much better then anything else on Sci-Fi channel now. I can't bring myself to watch any of their shows now-a-days. I hate being like that, but it just saddens me to see the direction they've gone with things. I've caught a bit's and pieces of Defiance which didn't seem all that intriguing to me. Has anyone watched some of these new shows and have any opinions about them?

Yeah, really silly action/sci-fi flicks are cool every now and then. It's the kind of movies I would watch on movie nights with my siblings.

Aw man, Farscape isn't on Netflix anymore? Very lame. I guess I may never get to watch it all then. I have to say that while streaming content is such a easy and great idea, I hate when companies bicker and fight over the rights for content usage. Consumers always lose in these situations.

Hmm, i don't like Babylon 5, it's one of those series with bad acting, awful CGIs, boring stories, brainless dialogues, uninteresting characters. Maybe it makes sense adding a second list for all the films and series others enjoy and which i don't like, to make it more complete but then again you could also consult a top SF films list on IMDB or so. Btw. i gave Farscape a try. It's better than Babylon 5 but not great either, it has a few good jokes but between those it's mostly like those cheaper produced series again.

Babylon 5 should be on this list. Put Babylon 5 in there taumel.

It does seem strange that neither Babylon 5 or even Firefly is included on that list, though, Serenity is included.

Stargate (the movie) is included, but not Stargate SG-1 or Stargate: Atlantis ...

Dark Angel (TV series with Jessica Alba) isn't included ....

Stick with Farscape for a bit. It gets better as it goes along. About halfway through season one, everything starts to click. It gets even better from there, and the plot goes in crazy directions. It actually had pretty crazy production values too. The Jim Henson Company was in charge of the special effects and all the creatures look pretty cool and were crazy expensive.

@DangeROSS

Farscape is on projectfreetv last I checked.

Okay, at which episode should i jump in then? I gave the first four episodes a try from which i consider episode three to be the best.

Episode 5 is one of my favorites in the series. It was the first one I saw that made me think they had something special. Episode 6 is kind of boring, but 7 and 8 are good. Most of the episodes after that are pretty decent except for Jeremiah Crichton which you should definitely skip. The episodes start to show the production values better as they go along too.

I did enjoy 6 a lot more than 5, still no good acting/interesting dialogues, the implausible and exaggerated characters dealing with so much pseudo stuff... but there were quite some funny moments. Overall i sense it's just not my type of thing. Thanks for the suggestion anyway. I think Battlestar Galactica is the lowest i'm willing to go but i'll at lest continue till episode 11.

Added Die Tür, Alphaville, Wanted, Children of Men.
