Darth Marsden

Greetings from the Telltale Games forums!

Recommended Posts

The most ironic thing about this whole mess is that Darth himself actually predicted exactly what would happen when TWD Season 2 and TWAU came out. As I already said, it turned into a whole debate where Darth's post were picked apart for any nitpicks such as using the word ''noobs'' in a post. This resulted in others backing up Darth (Again including me) and if I remember right, It also lead to dislikes becoming private because one of TTG's staff who was debating the whole thing with Darth received a lot of dislikes over the whole thing.

I know Its already been said but TTG really made the whole thing backfire on themselves. People could get through TWD Season 1, people could get through the flood of spambots that appeared every day, people could handle immature TWD players derailing blog posts, but they couldn't take the new forum. Something that has had 1 private Mod beta (I think I remember Darth or another mod mentioning that) and 1 public beta which both resulted in negative feedback but still near to no changes were made.

To be honest, I could handle the new forum if it were not for three things. Firstly, there just isn't any interesting topics that anyone talk about there anymore. Even then, some people rather then searching to see if a thread was made (For example, the rate the last book thread I made last August) and instead just making a whole new thread.

Secondly is the amount of complaints over stupid things. Since I barely visit the TTG forum anymore, just check in to see is there anything interesting, but from what I've heard from other people, it sounds like more of the same crap from TWD Season 1.

Thirdly is the comment system, where now due to nested comments, it requires having to search for new comments which is just plain annoying for a forum.

Then on top of that, there's the things that just annoy me such as..

-Why does TWD & TWAU need such giant spaces for the forum? Exactly what was wrong with how it worked before?

-General Chat is moved to the very bottom meaning unless you are looking for it, you won't notice it.

I would have been much more willing to suffer through the forum change if TTG still made games I cared about or even showed up at all. Fuck them. They don't even care about us. You know, the ones who were there to constructively explain why JP didn't work. They got what they were trying to accomplish, right, and stopped caring what we had to say.

I know if games that the old crowd liked were still being made, then a majority of them would have still stayed. Even I would really love a new Sam & Max, Strong Bad, Monkey Island, and Wallace & Gromit season. (Especially Sam & Max or Strong Bad because at this point, they would seem the most likely) But the fact can't be ignored that ever since BTTF. The only games that seem to be getting attention is the movie or TV licensed games and honestly, the point where it all seemed to be blown out of the water was when TWD Season 1 won game of the year.

I mean Season 2 was announced at that point etc but it was when it won Game of the Year where suddenly TWD was the biggest thing, getting DLC, Getting two disc versions (Normal, and Game of the Year edition which only added 400 Days) It got a collectors edition which only contained a giant book featuring a lot of TWD comics. Even now, Its still getting ported. To Android for example which for people who remember, a lot of people were asking for ports of games like Sam & Max Season 2 and Monkey Island to Android but it wasn't possible for some reason.

This is really what worries me, because now with TWD, and Game of Thrones coming up, that probably means there will be more of what happened with TWD. I mean say what you want about the complaints of the old crowd but at least most would explain their point of view and give feedback instead of coming up with stupid complaints like ''OH WHY DID YOU KILL OFF THIS CHARACTER?!'' Fair enough I wasn't around for S&M Season 3 and joined around the time BTTF was coming out. (But to be fair I did play if I remember, the PS3 version of S&M Season 3,and ToMI before I had joined the forums)

But anyway, I assume most people didn't go into a uproar when

Max was killed off and replaced with Past Max from Season 2 Episode 4

and instead discussed it instead of demanding

Max

magically reappears alive and well and

Past Max

just disappears for good.

Oh, there was an uproar, absolutely. Just not the insulting kind.

I still find that ending to be quite fitting. The series was so emotional that players were tricked into caring more for the characters and their story integrity than they would have in the comics - so much that they were eventually freaked out and trolled by something Steve Purcell would have done in the comics in the blink of an eye. Pure Sam & Max, honestly.

Yeah, That's why I said Majority. I could be wrong as well. But if games were still being made that the old crowd liked then they would probably try to use the forum. The main reason for everybody leaving was firstly, games being made that none of the old crowd wanted to play. But they still stayed in the forums because of the discussions and things being talked about and since there was a lot of people who liked talking to each other then they still visited the forum.

So when the forum is updated despite multiple warnings that no one liked it, then two mistakes were created at once. A forum system that completely split up the old crowd aside from a select few and the old crowd believing that TTG just were not listening to their opinions anymore. They felt that their feedback just didn't matter, feeling that TTG just outright abandoned the old crowd in favor of the new crowd where the majority just do nothing but complain about everything let it be when the episode comes out, what happens in the episode etc.

If I remember right, on S&M's 25th Anniversary blog post, some members that came with TWD came in crying about TWD Episode 3 and saying things like ''WHO CARES ABOUT A DOG AND RABBIT?! GIVE US TWD EPISODE 3'' or ''WHO CARES ABOUT THAT CARTOONY GAME! GIVE US TWD EPISODE 3!'' Then what's the three major complaints when Episode 3 does come?

1.''It's so glitchy''

2.Why did you

Kill Carley off?!

3.When's episode 4 coming?!

The big problem with the Sam & Max anniversary blog post getting trolled is that the comments were not linked to Telltale accounts, so there was no way to police the blog comments to remove troll posts, for either the staff or the moderators (which was always a bad idea, as even before the new trolls came in with The Walking Dead, you had people trolling by pretending to be Telltale staff members). Fixing that is actually one of the few things that the new forum has done right.

Agreed 100%. I can't wait for this. :)

Oh, and I don't know if you're just planning on writing lyrics, but if you want to have your lyrics set to music to get something really out there for the fun of it, and need help with that, I'm more than willing to help out. :)

I already got the premise set up about a bunch of Internet forum moderators that go through a day doing their things, their hatred for noobs and spammers growing as it goes along. It kinda works like a workplace comedy, but it is incredibly zanier than anything done before, mixing that with a musical.

"Mods and Spambots: A Musical"

Coming in 2015

Basically, the internet is like an alternate universe, and the Mods are cops. The other that make it up are terrible musicians, pornstars, spammers, trolls, noobs, gaming geeks, viral video nerds, and the list goes on.

Besides Telltale Murder Mystery (which is gonna be a trilogy, by the way), this could be the most ingenious, the most hilarious, and the most insanely idiotic thing I've ever done.

I'm doing the songs like Weird Al Yankovic: spoof lyrics to the tune of real songs.

In the musical (not in real life):

Noname215 is the Head Mod, basically the stereotypical douchebag Police captain.

Marsden in the main character, a Mod who wants to escape from the pressuring life of a moderator without realizing it's just an internet job.

Jenni is Marsden's partner, and she's the Randall to Marsden's Dante: a more lively person that is unable to convince Marsden that he doesn't have to be a mod forever.

Coolsome is a spambot that constantly breaks the fourth wall and commits random acts of rick rolling and posting cat photos.

Bidiot Bales is the leader of the Grammar Nazis, who wants to get all the internet Mods fired and replaced with stricter beings.

St_Eddie is a fat mother's basement loser that's been on the internet since 1997 and shows no sign of ever leaving, not even to use the bathroom.

Vainamoinen is a mod that appears and disappears at random times, does his job, and then vanishes for long periods of time.

Fhqwhgads is an internet p*rn addict that is unable to control his habits.

Leroy Octopus is an internet urban legend that many think doesn't exist because no one could have reached as high a post count as his.

EDIT: Friar is a gaming geek that chooses to live life in virtual reality as opposed to actual reality.

I'm still working on it.

The Heart of Rock and Roll - Huey Lewis and the News

A Little Ain't Enough - David Lee Roth
