      These Forums are closing!   10/04/2019

      After more than a decade of serving this community well, these forums have finally run their course and it's time to close them down. That doesn't mean we want to close the doors on our community, quite the opposite!
      Our discord server grows ever busier by the day, and we encourage all Double Fine fans to meet us over there www.discord.gg/doublefine In a short time these forums will become a read only archive and will remain that way until they become needed again.
      You never know, it might happen.  There is... a prophecy. Thank you all for being part of these forums, and remember that the fun is definitely not over - so please join us on Discord! Love ya, Spaff, Tim, Info Cow, and all of Double Fine.

Write as much as you can without explaining what it is exactly you are talking about.

I want to see people try this, I'll do mine tomorrow.

Last night was awful. I spent the entirety of it writhing around in agony. It felt like it was going to explode! I genuinely though I was going to have wet sticky goop dripping down my face. I could feel it pulsating. Every movement brought a new world of pain. I tried sticking my finger into it to help, rinsing it under the tap (faucet), and taking lots of drugs (of the medicinal variety) but nothing worked. I just couldn't stop the throbbing and the pain.

It's mostly gone now, but I have to be careful when I yawn, else my eardrum will once again erupt into pain.

You get this feeling somehow that there's a fundamental confusion between one thing or another, and that in order to untangle the confusion you have to go in and pick at it at the very roots. But the whole thing's a minefield, and you say something slightly wrong one way or another and people will draw a whole lot of assumptions about what you meant that aren't actually true. And the worst part about that is that the assumptions themselves are also borne out of the original confusion, so you end up both talking at complete cross purposes where the person has an image of you as, I don't know, irretrievably corrupted by society or convention or whatever it is and incapable of understanding their grievance. But actually you might understand exactly what they are saying, but you're just peeking at it from a perspective that doesn't include the confusion that let to it in the first place. It's a weird little knot of misunderstandings, but it's not like you can say 'look, I've really thought about this and have a very clear perspective about this and if only you would take the time to understand where I'm coming from I think actually we'd probably agree' because at best that's presumptuous and at worst it sounds plain arrogant or even creepy. Actually that's not the worst part. The worst part is that I think fundamentally people want the same thing out of this, but they just don't trust each other that they want the same thing. If someone has a different view of what's best, not only are they wrong but they're wrong because they want to ruin everything, and just don't know what made the thing special in the first place. They just don't understand. Which maybe seems hypocritical to complain about because I'm saying they just don't understand, but it's a bit different. It's a bit like the thing that Tim Schafer says about what people say they want versus what the underlying need behind it is. I feel like I'm conscious of the underlying needs, but there are people who only get as far as thinking about their immediate wants, and therein lies the source of a lot of this kind of distrust.

@Friar

Is that an ear infection or cauliflower ear. Either way your writing conveyed the pain/ickyness well.

@SurplusGamer

That sounds like your writing about real serious philosophical issues, either that or you're describing playing COD online. It was really well written, read through it faster than I expected.

I hear the bell and a little bit of me dies inside. It's not the first time I've heard it today and it probably won't be the last, and this happens all the time, but still it frustrates me to no end. I'm in the middle of something, dammit! Why should I have to answer your summons merely because you're not skilled enough to accomplish the task you're here to do quickly enough?

And yet I go, bound as I am by contractual obligation. I leave behind the work I was completing, the half-full box placed on the floor, and I wander over to where I have been summoned to. I don't even bother pretending to smile this time as I take my place behind that which I have been provided, and before I even say anything or activate my station, people immediately come before me. Again, I feel the frustration build even further. Why can they not wait until I call them over? Do they feel THAT entitled to service?

I don't even look at them as I do my job. I wave the items in front of the machine, hear the beeping and then place it inside the plastic container as quickly as I can, determined to end this nonsense as quickly as possible. Once full, I hand the container over to the person standing in front of me... and they're not even looking. They're chatting with their friend.

"Here's one" I utter, trying to keep the disdain from my voice. Oh NOW you notice? Yes, heaven forbid you actually pay attention to ME, oh no, your stupid and pointless conversation is CLEARLY far more important than I. They take the container from my hands and I open another, ready to place more items into, as they place theirs on the floor and resume their conversation. Idiot.

I finish and hand over the second container with a "And here's the second". Again, they only notice I'm holding it at my summons. Pay attention, dammit! I don't want to be here any more than you do! They smile in apology as they take it from me. Pathetic.

(Can't write more - it'd make it obvious what's going on if I did, and that'd defeat the purpose)

It's an painful thing, but hark you shall to the following:

"Bataille suggests the use of cultural neopatriarchial theory to challenge the status quo. In this, a number of dematerialisms concerning socialist realism may be revealed."-PMEG, 2013.

An understandably difficult issue, though one which may be approached and solved, yet only with the appropriate idealism. Some may say it is even comparable even to Sir. Schafer's recent works of efficiency, though only the inner sanctum can fully rectify the situation. Digression is a disease though, and I'm sneezing.

If we research the final works of the great master, reality shall strike like a lightning-bolt from the heavens, id est it shall kill us. Appropriate idiopathic measures must be installed in order to fully utilise one's true... I digress once again, I cough.

I am no longer fit to explain the essence of the issue, for I cannot write more than two sentences on this topic without digressing, though you yourself are the quintisenssial being in it all, truly you are the one who knows...

We shall now part ways, though if one thing is to be remembered, it shall be this:

"I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it." - Prof. Yahoo

Yes mine does have a meaning, but it's not what you'd think. Though it's the most obvious thing.

This thread sounds a lot to me like "post an excerpt from a school paper you wrote".

All in all I owe my entire life to it, ever since I was young it inspired me, brilliant inventions and fantastical adventures teaching me good morals to live one's life by. It helped me get into things that are now among my favourite pass times and it is the greatest achievement of all of mankind and makes me proud to be British.
